Upcoming! Urgent Pryer Requests!

Major prayer requests for the upcoming month.
First is that I am scheduled to have double eye surgery to correct double vision. As you might imagine, having double vision is a pain from everything to playing basketball with your kids, to missing a handshake by 6" not to mention driving in the madness of Lusaka traffic, my vision has been a major problem. The decision was between flying to the US without my family for 3-4 weeks and pay airfare plus at least $1000 plus dollars for my end of a $15,000 surgery. Having it here means greater risk (I'll be under general anesthetic) but also means being home with my family and also saves thousands of dollars. The doctor here is an excellent American doc and we've picked a day where she's been able to contract her #1 choice of anesthetists. That day is next Wednesday!
Pray that:
1. Our insurance company gets everything in order to pre-approve it by next week.
2. That surgeon would do an excellent job repairing my eyes and that I'd heal quickly.
3. That I'd have no problems with the general anesthetic. (Not die.)

Second, we've made a huge step forward with our adoption of Mark (formerly Joe) and Manny. We've received a back-dated approval letter from Social Welfare Headquarters which is unheard of! We're able to move forward right away with out waiting three more months!
Pray that:
1. Our social worker would take care of all the stuff that needs to be done so that we can go to court for the end of the year.
2. That the magistrate would look favorably on our adoption and grant it!
3. That all the follow up paperwork (birth certificates and adoptions decrees) would be finished in a timely manner.

Thanks for your prayer and care!

Koinonia Team and Teen Camp! (August)

In August we had the great pleasure of hosting a team from our sister camp, Koinonia Conference Grounds from Watsonville, California. While Koinonia has been a huge support to Ciyanjano in so many ways, this was the first time to have them bring a team to help train the Champs at how to be cabin counselors/leaders. The Champs had really come together as a unified team through the West Hills Team, but this was a chance for them to learn how to love and care for the kids in a cabin for multiple nights and to take the training and apply it by leading discussion groups and to pray to teach the kids based on the chapel messages taught by Uncle Kevin. Lots of games, lots of fun, singing, and the Champs learned to build relationships and trust with the 60+ kids from two different churches in such a short time!. What a joy and a blessing to see three days of training from Koinonia come to life with all the Champs jumping into leading worship, games and prayer, leading the discussions and teaching the kids. By the end of the camp we had at least 3 girls give their lives to Christ during small group discussions and the relationships built in the short time was evident as the kids got ready to leave, tears were shed by both the Champs and many of the kids. Such a great week and the Koinonia team and the Champs were all united in love as they taught the Gospel to these beautiful kids. Pray for those that prayed to receive Chisrt and for the ongoing unity of the Champs as we plan our own camp in December based on what we learned. Thank you Lord for protection over the kids and the team and the Champs during our time together!

Let's Rewind to Highlight our Intern of the Year (July at Ciyanjano)

So, yes. Our blog is extremely behind the times. So much has happened in the last three months so let me catch you up slowly and start with a highlight from our busiest season of the year. This year, Ciyanjano had our first intern. ACTION Zambia hasn't had an official intern since 2009 (I think) and this year we decided it was time to try it out. First of all we had a busy June with our team from West Hills Community Church teaching the Champs about the Kidzana evangelism program. And we knew that we'd be busy in August with a team from Koninoia Conference grounds. So we thought it would be a good time to bring in an extra set of hands to help out with children's ministry for the month of July. ACTION International partners with Youth Missions International (also based out of Seattle) to train teams and interns for ACTION fields. YMI trains 'em and sends 'em out to crazy places like Zambia to get a feel for international missions and catch the passion of the work of ACTION fields. There's not much for me to say about our intern. Except that she was the perfect fit for our team at the perfect time. That she worked hard and helped in a dozen ways and became an instant family member for us at Ciyanjano. Jenna helped teach at Ciyanjano Bible Club, volunteered at the AZ partner church feeding program for children with HIV, participated in Champs, helped us run a huge outreach with Chisomo Baptist in Matero with the Champs, spent lots of time with Holly and our family and also did P.E. with our kids. We LOVED having her here and have been praying for her return ever since. Her heart for kids and love for Jesus was shining bright every day for the whole month she was here, even with bushbabies running around her apartment at night, crazy jet lag, a steady diet of cereal, she showed our family and the kids of Ciyanjano huge love. We're fielding requests for summer interns and we're holding out for a return of the Jenna.
PS. YMI you set the bar a little high for your first intern! :)
